The democrats former poster boy for president, John Kerry, decided to take a swing at being a comedian the other day and said:
"Kerry then told the students that if they were able to navigate the education system, they could get comfortable jobs - 'If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq,' he said to a mixture of laughter and gasps."
Now if he meant that soldiers were un educated or that it was a stupid administration by the comment, that is not important. What is, is the fact that he is too arrogant to simply appologize. I listened this morning to him as he called in to the Don Imus show, and Imus point blankly told him that regardless of the intent, his statement was taken as a slam on the soldiers and he should simply say he was sorry. Nope, he talked about every other topic but refused that one. To paraphrase one of the on air people of the show (which is 99% of the time critical of the current administration) "He wasn't using a shovel to dig the hole he is in, he was using heavy equipment!"
It, more than likely, was a simple faux pas. All he had to do was say "opps, that didn't come out right, what I meant was......" Instead, he continues to ignore how his comment was perceived, he continues to claim it was fine, they just want to use it against him, he continues to pretty much do everything except what would get him out of this mess. One would think, educated or not, that he would think back to what happened to Trent Lott over a little opps....or maybe not.
Perception is reality Mr. Kerry, plain and simple.

I heard his speil and I did not think it was a blast at the soldiers. He is a veteran so I dont think he would disrespect soldiers. The whole spin came from white house, understandable when he was mocking the Prez (jeez.. how can one fuck that one up!!).
But since his remark and the target is generally gleened by the majority, I dont see why he should apologise.

Interesting take on the comments he made. Perhaps if one looked at some of his past statements concerning his distain for the military, in an unbiased way, your opinion might change. You know, calling soldiers rapists, murders, etc.. stating that those serving in Iraq now are storm troopers that wake childern and women in the dead of night, harassing them and such. In fact, he has done nothing but direspect the military since he left it (google anyone?).
Since perception is reality in most cases, Mr. Kerry has done nothing but make his road ahead a little tougher and the republicans a little happier. The dems are avoiding him like the plague.
And what was it that Lott said again? Oh yeah, "if you (Strom) were president now, we wouldn't have all the problems we have had over all these years".
Yeah, I can see how that was bad enough to not only have him appologize, but to step down. No need to say something like that to the longest serving senator on his 100th birthday.
We.. I still stand by the fact that his only crime in this case was his inability to tell a joke. It was obvious (if you hear the whole speech), that it was a bungled Prez joke. But any case he has tenderd an apology.. but I am taking bets on how long the Reps milk this one.
